Currently sitting in the hostel kitchen, munching a kiwi like a peasant. (The fruit, not the people... I haven't reached cannibalism just yet... Although I'm beginning to look like a barbarian) Think it's something to do with the amount of wrist threads, and the baggy jumper I'm wearing. Should probably take them off before people start throwing rocks at me.
I'm gunna be dead truthful with you lot... 90% of this blog is going to be me bleating on about how gobsmackingly, orgasmicly, flipping godly this place really is. I've decided that I don't want a boyfriend, I just want a mountain, and a waterfall... Maybe even an easel so I can paint my mountain every now and then.
Booked myself a Milford Sounds tour, $119... 12hour day, touring round the most 'Lord of the Rings' piece of land ever. I pretended I was a Hobbit for the day. Got smart with my rucksack, threw some banana chips and oats in a bag... And waddled down to where the bus pick up point was :) ... AT 6.30AM. Happy days.
It was around a 2hour drive to reach the Milford Track. Even then, I found my bottom jaw drooping down at the sight of the HUGE LAKE. The bus dude said this thing was about 85km long. So much water.
We stopped off at this little township called Te Anau. The Lake Te Anau, is known to be New Zealand's largest Lake, 344km squared. Apparently it's quite a popular camping spot for the lovely kiwi people. Yeah, it was a pretty big Lake. I took some pictures. I took pictures of everything. I must've looked like the worst photographer in the business... Whipping out my Nokia at every opportunity.
After stopping off for a coffee break, we moved on towards the Milford Track. The driver was a considerate chap. He made a few stops so we were able to walk through the forests and take some good shots of the scenery. Some of the places we visited were filmed during the Lord of the Rings. There was this placed filled with these purple, pinky, Fox Glove looking plants... So if you see any purple flowers and mountains in Lord of the Rings, you can now imagine me standing in the middle of it all, wide eyed, clutching hold of my s***ty excuse for a camera.
I don't wanna bore you with endless descriptions of this place, like some spiritual poetic twit... I think you need to see this kind of stuff yourself...
Our happy bus driver offloaded us lot to the Cruise Station. This is where I learnt a lot about myself... Apparently, I'm a big fan if this scenic s***... I'm opening up to you lot now. On more than one occasion, I found myself getting all emotional looking at what was in front of me. I was amazed me how something so BIG could be so stunning to look at. It was a bunch of Mountains! Not my brother's wedding for Christ sake! I piroetted around this boat like a spinning top. Constantly turning, and taking in all the pretty things. I was at it again, giving my finger a workout on the old snapper. (Sounds like a terrible innuendo). So many pictures of Mountains and waterfalls. I'd give the Japanese tourists a run for their money! Of course they were all in the boat... We had all the Asians. You can imagine how much they were lapping up the piccies! A little Japanese lady fell over (as it was a bit choppy, and crazy windy on this boat), and even then, she was still lying on the ground, taking pictures! Bloody nutter.
If you hadn't guessed the mountains that surrounded us, were pretty massive. They had these waterfalls sprinkled around them. The water was so white, it reminded me of an iced bun. Bit of frosting, dripping down the delicious mountain. You have to hand it to me, I should be a poet, right?
I'm gunna shut up about Milford now... You're welcome to have a look at the pictures... But you're nuts if you just settle for that. They don't do this place justice. If you ever get the opportunity to see this place, do it. You'll be goose bumping for TIME.
The people staying in the hostel are pretty funny. There were these kiwis and 2 Japanese girls sharing dinner, they came over whilst watching me paint, then invited me to have dinner with them. The Japanese girls had cooked up a load of Asian food. They made these aubergine and pork patties that looked mental. Unfortunately I'd already eaten, so I missed out on some good grub. I got talking to the kiwis, they invited me to live with them ha ha, step closer to staying I guess?!
The guys staying in my room are an entertaining bunch. They're pretty fond of the happy grass... I was feeding this guy banana chips whilst he was baked like a lasagne. He couldn't stop laughing. Giggling with these mashed up banana chips hanging from his mouth. Don't worry parents, I'm just a spectator.
Another chappy threw up on his pillow half way through the night... Was woken up by chundering Andy, releasing his bodily acids all over his poor pillow. Think he needed his Mum there... Anywho!!!
Christmas COUNTDOWN!!!! Wooh!!!
