Leg 8 race 12 day 9
On deck for 6am it was cloudy and damp. Had code 2 spinnaker up and the wind had picked up. Was only on deck for an hour when I was asked to go down below to help sophie fix the code 1: it was really badly ripped and sophie and I took all day to patch it.
Bob received a sati light phone call to inform us the race was being extended as they couldn't have us in Derry before 7th July. The crew were really fed up ! We were due to arrive Monday 4th but now can't be in till the 7th! The same thing happened in da nang and sir robin gave a speech at prize giving saying races would never be extended again! Don't think they were expecting to cross the Atlantic so quickly and Derry won't be ready to welcome us. I image the same lot of discontent amongst the fleet. We tood our code 2 down around 3pm as the waves were high and we broached a few times. Although I think the crew were not in the right frame of mind due to the course extension.
