Leg 8 - race 12 - day 6 Sunday
Woken at 5.30 had slept ok woke a couple of times in the night. Had a coffee then up on deck for 6 am it was dead calm with only a little wind. The code 1 spinnaker was up. We could see 4 boats around us visit Seattle Psp mission and unicef also could see a container ship. Not sure where we were in the fleet but good to see other boats around - the last few days there had been nothing around. It was warm but cloudy. There was not a lot of wind and our heavy weight sheets were on the spinnaker so i suggested we put the light weight ones up which we did I helped vitaly do this. We double our speed from 1.5 - 3 knots ! Then through the course of the morning the wind picked up a little more to between 7-8 knots. Matt came up with the latest fleet schedules we were 8th however still in a position to move up.
Came off watch made scones for the crew did the log, bilges and cleaned heads. Sun had come out and it was so hot. Just t shirt and shorts on. Everyone has got user to the boat routine and times now so all not as tired. Went into Sophie's bunk listened to music and dozed for a while. Had an email through from Sam good to hear from him couldn't sleep so got up and went on deck to chat to the dragons. Had dinner then time for my watch 6pm - 10pm : not a lot to do on watch code 1 was still up but the winds were light. Sarah helmed for most of the watch. We have covered 1600 miles now so half way there ! The sky was so clear with lots of stars. Sea was calm and the wind was between 7 -12 knots. Nice easy chill out shift, good chatting to Jimmy and vitaly and Andy popped up to talk too. I have noticed the difference between this leg and leg 5 in the crew all chatting more now with each other and communication is better. Finished shift at 10 In bunk by 10.30 being gently rocked to sleep xx
Miles covered 164 speed 4.8- 9.5
Wind 6.6-19.8
