Leg 8 race 12 day 4 Thursday
Woken at 5.30 could have done with sleeping more. Up on deck for 6am didn't fancy any breakfast so just had an apple. My Tummy hurts from being hungry but can't face a lot of food still don't feel right. Carl's arm is a little better but still swollen I do think it could be broken ! But his so good not making a fuss. It was raining at start of shift then the sun came out finished at 11 salad and cheese scones for lunch then I was on standby. Washed up and made coffee and tea for those on deck. As I carried them up managed to drop then on my head and arm luckily I had put cold water in so they weren't too hot! It's so hard walking around the boat when it's heeled over. Whilst I was on standby it was pouring with rain. Washed up did the log emptied bilges. Heard that a 62 year old man off ichorcoal has had chest pains and they are diverting to Norwich USA to drop him off. Makes you realise how far away we are from land.
Went to bed at 2 didn't think I would sleep as had slept so well last night but I did for a good 3 hours. Woke at 5 had roast beef yummy ! But no Yorkshires or horseradish ! As I sat in the galley eating I could hear the rain on deck nice to be inside listening made the boat feel cosy but I know my shift was to start soon and I was going to be wet.
Up on shift at 6 and sure enough got wet not only by rain but waves too, funny how you get used to it. Saw lots of lightening in the sky never seen so much and how bright it made the sky. Also it's good how your eyes get used to the dark. Came on when it was light and by the time I came off deck at 10pm it was dark but my eyes had adjusted and could still see a lot. We managed to catch up with Danang and over take them.
When shift was over came below had a hot chocolate and sent a couple of emails. One to Connor and one to Jodie to see how she got on at her awards. Had a wash down then got into my bunk. It was so hot laying in sweat and dripping even more, hair is greasy where I haven't washed it feel so in need of a decent shower or bath. What a luxury that would be. Eventually fell asleep listening to music
