Leg 8 / race 12 : day 8 Tuesday
Was woken at 5.30 upon deck for 6 had slept really well. Two black coffees and I was awake ! Still had code 1 up wind had picked up but due to the wind angles and our heading we were only doing around 6 knots still around 9th in fleet. Sun is out boat is flat and its chilled. Saw some dolphins but the didn't come above water so no photos. Off shift at 10. Had salad for lunch. Washed my hair. Went up on deck and laid on staysail on bow listening to music : amazing. I know we are taking part in a race to Derry but we are so dependant on the wind. All the fleet is in the same position although some have found more wind!
In 4 hours off watched a film back on deck at 6pm the wind had picked up still had code 1 up and boat was going faster slightly heeled over now . The evening started to go well we were making good speeds with Sarah at the helm to start surfing down the waves. But just after 9pm we managed to wrap the spinnaker around the forestay! Seemed to take ages to get it down. The standby crew rushed up on deck to help us. Vitaly was at the helm with Carl Jimmy sophie Andy Bob and mark on the bow. As it was coming down I saw I rip and my heart sank ! Lots of sail repair will need to be done. When it was down we hoisted staysail and Yankee 1. It was Tiring work and seemed to take forever I was worried about Carl and the crew on the bow, they were having to bear hug the spinnaker to get it down. Andy hurt his wrist too. Off shift gone 10 then in bed by 11pm
