Leg 8 - race 12 - day 6 - Saturday
Didn't sleep as well last night lots of crew talking near my bunk kept waking me up. Got up 5.30 and ached all over. Got dressed Mark had my black coffee waiting, lovely as can't face breakfast first thing. Up on deck for 6am. The spinnikar code 2 was up and had been since 2am the sun was out and it was warm. Just had a T shirt on with foulie bottoms. The sky was clear blue can't believe we are in the north Atlantic. Mind you still at 40 degrees latitude which is a straight line between Madrid and New York. We are 100 miles or so off our next way point and can't go more than 5 miles north as there is an ice burg exclusion zone there. Once we hit the next way point we can go north. We are currently 9 th in the fleet but we are the furthest north so hopefully once we turn the corner we potentially could be near the top of the rankings. Matt came on deck for a while and updated us about our route and where the rest of the fleet was.
Came off watch at 10am the boat had flatten off a bit not so heeled over so much. Washed my hair in the sink in the forward heads felt so good - the first time in 6 days !
They took the spinnaker down at 10.30 so I helped to wool it up and bag it. So warm down below deck I am wearing shorts and t shirt. Made 3 cakes for the crew and cut up 2 pineapples. Reminds me of when we were off the coast of Australia so warm and clear blue sky's.
Iced the cakes and woke up the dragons watch. Standby went really quick today think it was because we were busy and it's nice making cakes when the boat is flat. We are currently in a high pressure system so the sea is flat and hardly any wind. Wanted to Check emails as sophie told me had one from Jodie but the nav was busy. so good to hear from her. Went on my 4 hours off. Laying in Sophie's bunk listening to music. There is a good happy chilled feeling on the boat everyone is getting on and having a laugh. Felt good laying in my bunk so happy I am sharing this experience with Carl we both have such a passion for sailing xx couldn't sleep but nice chilling. Up at 5.15 for dinner
Up on deck at 6pm had Yankee up wind had eased Sarah went on the helm and continued for the rest of the watch she did really well and was so pleased. We got to the waypoint for the corner of the ice ban and went on a mike then headed north. Shift went quickly. Sent emails to Jodie Connor Sam and Dana to say hi then into bed just after 10pm
Miles covered 229 speed 6.6 - 12.6
Wind 12- 21
