No visit to Queenstown would have been complete without & Fergburger. This small but extremely popular burger bar has a huge range of tasty burgers. We both had a classic for brunch before setting off on our 4hr drive to Milford.
At Te Anua we stopped for coffee & tea to stretch our legs & explore the town. We got to watch a replay of the extra time & penalties from the champions league game. Which not knowing the result was as good as watching it live.
The drive to Milford itself has to be one of the best drives I have experienced. The scenery was so dramatic along the way, hopefully the photos do it justice as I cannot think of a enough superlatives. Round every corner were colossal mountains, dense forests, & lovely lakes. At one stage we were driving through a cloud, & a tunnel through a mountain. We stopped to do the short walk to the Chasm. This naturally made chasm of water with its huge boulders & great sound of crashing water was quite the site. We shall stop off at more of these shorter walks on the drive back.
Upon arriving at the lodge we realised how we were truly in natures hands. The lodge has a lounge & kitchen/shop but no tv. We ventured to Milford itself which has only a cafe/bar, the ferry terminal & a tiny airport. We walked the lookout walk before grabbing a drink in the bar.
We took the car back as it was getting dark. At the lodge we purchased some tin of soup for tea which we had after the rush in the kitchen had come to an end. The darkness was complete outside the lodge straying just a few meters away & you were in total darkness. Sadly due to the clouds I could not see any stars. To pass the time before bed, we watched an episode of House that I had stored on my phone. Quite a screen size change from my tv at home.
