Following a good nights sleep & a catch up on the phone with home, we went out to brunch. Capers was recommend to us by the hotel guide & we were not disappointed. Despite arriving at 10am the place was packed & we were lucky to get a table.
Dunedin is very much student town with echoes of the toon, Leeds & Manchester. George St where we are staying is a mix of hotels & student accommodation.
After brunch we walked around Forsyth Bar Stadium, home to the Highlanders. Before boarding our scenic train trip through the Taieri George we took in the NZ sports hall of fame museum.
The return train journey to Pukerangi travels along the longest stretch of privately owned railway in NZ at 64km. A commentary was provided along the route as well as many photo opportunities that can not be accessed by road.
After the train ride we went to Speights Brewery for a tour. This was informative but the highlight had to be the free samples at the end of the tour. This turned into a musical chairs type drinking contest. With myself a Scotsman & two Dutch lads the last men still drinking as time was called.
We grabbed dinner in an American diner outside the city, which was full of students.
Feeling tired from the beers at the brewery bedtime was very much needed.
