We had a lovely breakfast with our hosts, with some homemade scones. Lynette then drove ahead of us to take us down to the coast for a wonderful view of Mount Cook/Greymouth now that the sun had come up.
Following our hosts advice we took the coastal route in the sunshine. First off was the blowholes & pancake rocks, followed by a seal colony where we got to see lots of young seals waiting on their parents to bring them food. Next up was a drive through the quaint town of Westport. Having lots of stops today meant that it didn't feel like an effort driving from one place to another. Today also saw us walk across NZ longest swingbridge. Nothing like the one over the Tyne, this one was more like a rope/suspension bridge. The walkway was see through over a river valley. Two trips across was more than enough without anything falling out of my pockets.
Shortly after this we arrived in Murchison where I had originally planned to stay before booking a cabin by the lake. We grabbed lunch in a cafe, before driving to meet Neville to get the cabin keys.
The cabin decor itself is a good mix of hunting, farmers, foresters. Neville had laid the fire for us, which provided the only heat for the cabin. Before settling in for the night we managed two walks. A nature walk past the lake itself, then the second down the Braeburn Track which was a proper trampers walk, which we just concluded before dark.
Once I got the fire going the main room warmed up nicely, & I made a sausage salad with my signature pizza (burnt on top). It is very nice to have an entire place to ourselves with room to spread out and relax.
