The cold stirred us both into action this morning. Unlike at dene terrace when the house was cold, you could jump into bed & get warm, the cabin beds did not. A breakfast of our remaining sausages & some scraping of ice off the car allowed us to leave at 7:45am.
Arriving in Golden Bay at 10:15am, following the very funny morning show on More FM, Wendy & Patrick greeted us with warm drinks & gave us a good itinerary for the day.
We decided to first to drive to the very North West of the south island to walk along a trail that led us to the beach. This decision was made as the sun was out & there was no wind whatsoever. Sadly the south westerly wind hit us as soon as we reached the beach. This almost gale force wind meant that the walk & seal watching was less than fun. Next was took in Cape Farewell then grabbed a coffee overlooking the nature reserve known as Farewell Spit.
Admiral Collingwood has a town in golden bay, so we therefore had to pop into the Collingwood Tavern & the museum. Our hosts had recommend a micro brewery known as the Mussel Inn. In which we grabbed a nice lunch as well as a tasting tray of beers. These beers we not as good in my opinion as the main stream beers we have had on the trip. With the sun beginning to set we strolled along the beach, thankfully now the wind had completely gone.
There was just enough daylight to walk around the worlds clearest freshwater springs, before retiring to our hosts home for some dinner & drinks.
