Sunday & Monday 22-23 May 2011 - after leaving cousin Betty's at Southampton we rode to Sammy Miller's Motorcycle Museum at New Milton about 30 miles distance.


Sammy MILLER is a famous British motorcycle racer of the 1950's & 60's. He is well into his 70's and still competes in certain events such as the Isle of Man TT in 2009 when he famously crashed over a stone wall yet walked away to tell the tale. His musuem has over 400 bikes and is world famous.
Chris enjoyed it so much we had to drag him away because we still had several hours to ride before we reached our digs at Plymouth. We decided to stay at Plymouth for two nights so that we could leave all our luggage there and ride to Land's End and back in one day without the extra weight.


When planning this trip we thought it would be a good idea to ride from Land's End being the most southern point of the British mainland to John O'Groats, the most northern tip which is in Scotland.

Unfortunately the Monday weather forecaste was for showers and strong winds! They got it half right. We had strong winds alright, but no showers. We would have settled for showers but it poured all day! Luckily we put on our wet weather gear early enough to take away most of the rain but nothing could stop the wind! It was so strong that the bikes weaved across the road, not a good feeling!

We detoured to Lyme Regis where we had morning tea. The village is slowly slipping into the sea and so Kerrie thought she would build a sand castle on the beach before the houses got there first. Sadly she ran into a few problems - no sand being one!


We then stopped at St. Michael's Mount which shares the same name and structural layout as Mont St. Michel in Normandy in France with being a small island just off the coast with a chapel built on it. We didn't go out to the island because it was high tide and could only be reached by boat. Given the high wind and cold be chickened out and settled for taking a photo.


We then rode on to Penzance where we kept looking out for pirates but couldn't find any. Because it was lunch time and being in Cornwall we thought it only proper to indulged ourselves in a genuine Cornish pastie with Greg's embellished with HP sauce.


We finally reached Land's End which is 10 miles past Penzance and parked the P-D and RG500 in the carpark and walked the path to the end of land, took our snaps and walked back to the souvenir shops which were both warm and dry.


We mounted our steeds and made a bee line back to our hotel at Plymouth 80 miles distance; an almost two hour ride in the cold wind and rain. Don't you just love motorcycling!
