Greg and Kerrie's travels
Wednesday 29.06.2011 to Friday 01.07.2011 - We left Folkestone and headed up to Cambridge where we stayed the night. The town was buzzing as it was graduation week for the university students. We pottered around the town for a few hours amongst the throng before eating at our hotel and setting off for Ispwich in the morning.
As the journey to Ispwich was only about 60 miles we arrived around 11.00 am and checked into our hotel. We found a Tesco and bought two el cheapo suitcases to carry home all our newly purchased goodies accumulated over the last four months. We were worried that we would exceed our weight limit of 20 kg per person and have to pay extra at a humungous rate to get our stuff home. We then found a car wash where we washed and polished the P-D so that there would be no hassles with Australian customs on arrival in Brisbane because they are renowned for being finnecky about such things.
Chris turned up at the hotel at about 9.00 pm, we could hear the distinctive noise of the two stroke RG500 pull into the car park. We then heard about his Irish adventures. After breakfast in the morning it was time to drop off both the Pommie Ducati and the Suzuki RG500 at the Imorex depot at Felixstowe for their joint voyage back to Australia by sea. Before leaving Ispwich we picked our our rental car that we would have for the next four days.
Chris found Julie RANSOME who works for Imorex to recover his three or four packages he had posted back to her for safe keeping. Julie is one of those people who can't do enough to help you. We remember her from 2007 when she was just as helpful to us. Thank you Julie.
We found our cardboard cartons that we had unpacked in Izmir, Turkey that had been shipped to Felixstowe in the same container the bikes came from. Kerrie some how managed to pack our bike riding gear and helmets into the boxes ready for return home. Dave MILLIGAN, the Mr Big of Get Routed, our bike shipping company turned up and strapped the bikes down on racks getting them ready to place into the shipping containers.
With everything done, we sadly bid good bye to our faithful P-D & RG500, leaving them behind for their own return home. We then drove out - destination Southampton for a few days R & R with cousin Betty and her husband Ciggy HUGHES. We left Felixstowe right on schedule at 12 noon, expecting to be at Southampton by 4 pm, plenty of time to cover the 120 miles. Wrong! We didn't figure on the traffic jam that hits the London ring road every Friday afternoon. At one stage we travelled four miles in one and a half hours! Double b*****! We finally reached Betty's at about 7.00 pm and went to a local pub where we had a soothing cold beer and a good feed before hitting the hay ready for a day at the Isle of Wight tomorrow.
