Greg and Kerrie's travels
Monday 25.04.2011 - ANZAC Day. The first time in many, many years that we have not been up at the crack of dawn to attend a Dawn Service. We did take a moment however, to remember those who have served our country.
We had decided the day before to ride to St. Moritz as it is only 80 km each way. On the way up we reached a plateau and wondered why it suddenly became so much colder. We soon found out as we rode around the edge of a lake covered with floating, broken ice!
We also rode beside an amazingly still lake with a mountain reflection mirrored almost perfectly.
We took a slight detour and about 8 km from St. Moritz we rode to the top of Julierpass at 2284 metres. At the top of Julierpass we saw about six other bikers at the top and had a brief chat. Other bikes were coming and going, all well rugged up of course.
St. Moritz is a ski resort and the prices reflect just that. It is a very beautiful location, if somewhat restricted to the rich and famous due to the outrageous prices for housing and hotel accommodation etc.
We walked around, took some happy snaps, including Greg deciding between a red BMW Z3 and green Lambourghani (hardly a choice?),
had a bite to eat (not much) and then decided we had seen enough. The rich and famous can keep it; nice to visit but ... you know the rest.
We decided to ride back a different route, longer but promised to be more scenic through Passo del Bernina. We weren't disappointed.
Back to our hotel by the Lake with plans to ride to Milan the next day so Kerrie could do some shopping!

Chris Glad you made it to St Moritz. We stayed at Livigno which is in the ne of this map a few years ago. It's god's own country. Scary on a bike I would imagine. It's still pouring with rain here!BFN
