Greg and Kerrie's travels
Saturday 02.07.2011 - we found our way down to the Southampton docks where we boarded the Red Funnell car ferry to the Isle of Wight. We had heard from Kerrie's sister Vicki REILLY, that the Isle of Wight was very pretty and worth a visit so with Betty & Ciggy in tow we all piled into our rental car and headed off for the day.
The trip over takes about an hour and we sailed right past where Betty & Ciggy live in their high rise building right on the water front leading to the Southampton docks. As soon as we docked in Cowes we made a bee line to visit Ciggy's nephew Derek and his wife Janet who live on the Isle after having retired there 3 years ago.
We had scones with butter and a cool drink before following them in their car to a sea side hotel where we enjoyed a pleasant lunch in the sun and overlooking the beach. The highlight of the lunch was no doubt Chris's pint of prawns that came in, you guessed it, a pint glass!
We then bid Derek & Janet farewell before driving around the southern shores of the isle, stopping for a photo shoot and a chat to some local bikers. It was then back to the ferry for the return trip to Betty's house where we wondered how the hell we were going to fit everything we had bought over the previous 4 months and posted back to Betty's into the two suitcases we had bought and keep under our weight allowance.
Tomorrow it is destination London for our flights out on Monday - Istanbul for us and Calgary for Chris.
