Greg and Kerrie's travels
Friday 27.05.2011 - we woke to a clear and sunny day; glee after yesterday's rain, wind and cold.
We packed up and headed north towards Llandudno, a very beautiful seaside town on the north coast of Wales that we had stayed in way back in 1982 when backpacking around the world. We had found memories of the place and so we wanted to return for a memory refreshing visit.
The ride through the Welsh countryside was glorious to say the least.
The roads were dry, everything was lush and the views spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed the riding which was at a relaxed pace.
We stopped off for lunch at Carnarvon, the town where Prince Charles was invested as The Prince of Wales on his 21st bithday in 1969.
We parked the bikes where a contradictory sign succeeded in confusing us as to whether or not we could legally park there. After a 3 ringed discussion between Greg, Kerrie & Chris we decided not to chance it and move the bikes. Just then a guy came up and said he was running the local bike safe campaign, was a local and had been a copper for 30 years. He confirmed that yes, we were illegally parked but not to worry because the local council parking officers will ignore our bikes due to the foreign registration and not to move them as he knew all the parking officers. Accepting his advice and a few free bike safe souvenirs he handed out, we set off to explore Carnarvon Castle and then get a bite to eat.
Of course you can imagine our surprise to find a parking ticket plastered on the P-D and the RG500 windscreens! Not happy Jan.
Even more so when we opened up the ticket and saw the fine was 75 pounds which is about $120 AUD. Just as we were cursing the bike safe guy he returned and apologised embarrassingly for his faux pas and promised to 'sort it out' for us. He took down the ticket details and said he would speak to the local parking officer who issued the tickets and have them withdrawn and that we should tear them up! Sounded good to us so we took his advice (again!) hoping he didn't shaft us a second time.
We left Carnarvon and rode eastbound towards Llandudno arriving about 30 minutes later. We rode through the main street and somehow ended up on a one way circuit around the Great Orme Headland, a ride of 4.4 miles.
Never mind we followed the road and enjoyed the view, even if somewhat windy and very, very cold.
We returned to Llandudno, rode around again,
took some snaps and then decided we had better head for our overnight destination of Chester, satisfied that our two day sojourn into Wales had been rewarding with some excellent scenery and riding.
