On Friday I went on a little mission to find one of my best friends cousins, who runs a small American sports style clothes store called Sneak & Destroy in Mermaid Beach on the outskirts of Surfers Paradise.. which I found with relative ease.. well my mate did who spotted it as we were driving past on the bus. Finally got to meet Maz's cousin after hearing about him over recent years.. turns out he has the same surname as me and the same Christian name as my late dad.. how weird!! Had a good chat with him about friends, family and my travels and he even sorted me out with some discount on some shorts I bought and gave me a free pair of sunglasses!! What a nice chap :)
Headed down to Nobbys Beach soon after meeting Mark to play a bit of football and then took the long walk back to Surfers along the lush beach.
Friday night was a chilled affair with it being the Good Vibrations Festival the next day :)
Saturday arrived with roasting hot sunshine and I was genuinely excited for what was in store. With the festival starting at 12noon we jumped into an unlicensed minibus to avoid the queues and traffic. Arriving at 12.30pm we went straight in. The heat made it a little uncomfortable at times especially in the tents so some topless dancing was called for. The festival got off to a slow start but as the sun began to drop things were about to change. I took myself to the Chinese Laundry tent where I awaited Sasha's arrival. As soon as he appeared I got a huge lift and a massive sense of occasion came over me.. this is what I had been waiting for!! Dropping UNKLE's In A State track as his intro got things off to a spine tingling dreamy start.. WOW!! Things just got better and better from then on and I loved every minute of his set. Magnificent!! That's why I keep going back for more after all these years :)
After Sasha was done on the decks I headed over to the Good Vibrations main stage to see Faithless close the festival. They were absolutely fantastic.. with the classics Insomnia, Salva Mea and We Come 1 being the highlights. But they still couldn't upstage Sasha's performance.. truly awesome!!
(I've uploaded all my personal videos from the festival to Facebook for your viewing pleasure) ;)
Got back to the hostel exhausted, with sore feet and jumped straight into bed. Great day!!!
Sunday was always going to be a chilled one at the beach especially as my feet were still sore from all the dancing and standing around the day before.. still managed to play a bit of football and cricket though into the afternoon.
Had a steak dinner at Melbas again in the evening then just relaxed at the hostel for the remainder of the night.
It was hot and humid this morning making it very uncomfortable to do anything.. so I did my laundry!! :) The rest of the afternoon has been spent planning my next move.. which is tomorrow morning up to Brisbane. Had a great time in Surfers Paradise over the past 3 weeks but I'm looking forward to moving on now and exploring a new city.
In the middle of a massive thunder storm at the moment as I write my blog on the hostel terrace. It's been going for 2 hours now and shows no sign of stopping!! Cooled things down though.. which is a good thing.
Next stop.... Brisbane!! :)
