OK, so I've been really lazy and not written a blog for a couple of weeks, as there didn't seem too much to say.A week last Sunday we went to see the cats, for one of the last times before their owners returned.Over the short time of cat sitting they had gotten to know Graham more, so were not so shy, especially if you played with them. One loves to chase string and the other plays fetch, like a dog!We then went downtown to the Ethnic Café.This is one of those places we keep meaning to go to, and now are wondering why we never did make it there before. It's a fantastic underground café which serves cocktails and has huka pipes. The place is dark and full of candles and cushions in the small booths. It's great to just lounge around on the floor for a few hours, and we shall definitely be going back there soon. After, we went for an Indian meal, and found that the restaurant would order us some Basmati rice from Seoul, as we are getting fed up of the Korean rice!
Last weekend we saw lots of sport. On the Saturday afternoon we went to watch the local foreigner team play another foreigner team at football. Our friend is in the team, and this was his last match before leaving Korea, so we thought we should show our support. The weather has been much more pleasant in the last couple of weeks, and we had not had the air con on for a while at home, but this weekend was stifling again! On Friday night I had put the air con back on, as I couldn't sleep, and on Saturday the humidity was terrible. We sat in the shade, drinking beer, and we were sweating just watching the guys out on the football pitch dying in the heat. They kept substituting every 10 minutes, as it was not possible to play for longer.
Later that evening we went to the World Cup stadium to watch Gwangju FC.They were playing the Jeju Island team, and drew 2-2.It was a pretty exciting game (Korean football usually isn't) as Gwangju really tried to get a third goal but just didn't make it.There was a large group of us, as it was our friend's leaving celebrations, so we all headed downtown where we met up with many others.Once again we have the sadness of friends leaving, but the excitement of getting lots of good things given to us!
On Sunday we decided to go the baseball game. The Kia Tigers had been doing well, so Graham went early with a couple of friends to get tickets, and then the rest of us came along later. We sat at third base this time, which I had not done before, and I think it was better than first base. The view was better, and it was not so hectic (yes, I'm getting old!)Every game I have ever been to the Kia Tigers has lost, so I was worried that I was bad luck, but they won this game 3-2.Again it was quite an exciting game, as it was a close score, and there was much celebrating when they won.
It's been nice to spend some time in Gwangju recently and just relax a little. We've been on lots of other nights out with friends, and had people over too, so it's been great to just socialise and spend time with friends.
