On Thursday night we decided to try the quiz night again at Speakeasy. They have a new quiz master, so we thought we'd go along to see if it was any better, and it was. This time we had some chance of getting some questions right, and came 5th, only 6 points behind the winners. The last round was a music round on 90's music (guessing the correct song and band) and we got a perfect score, so won ourselves a round of shots.
On Saturday the rain came down, and showed no signs of stopping.I went shopping downtown, with a Korean friend, Iris.We went to the underground shops, to keep out of the rain, and had a very successful shopping trip. Those of you, who know me, will know my love of shoes, and due to our limited luggage allowance I could only bring 5 pairs with me.This did not include any high heeled shoes, as I did not think I would need them, and I am tall, and thought I would look like a giant next to the Koreans if I wore heels! However, there are some tall Koreans (taller than the people in other Asian countries we have been to) and many westerners wear heels too. When travelling last year no-one wore heels, as everyone was backpacking, and very casual, but as people here are staying for a longer time they tend to dress up more, which was something I had not expected, and not come prepared for.So, with my new wardrobe from Shannon, and an invite to a wedding next weekend, I decided I wanted some heels. It took a long time to find some that fit me.A UK size 6 is a size 250 here, and this is generally the biggest size they do, but I am usually a 6 ½ which is a 255.So, after trying on several pairs of shoes that were just too small, and very narrow, I eventually found a pair I really liked, and that fit me, for the bargain price of 2300,000 Won (about 12.50 GBP). I am now very happy, and look forward to my next shopping trip with Iris.
Later we went to a tailgate party, held by TELF recruiters, before the Gwangju FC football game.It was still bucketing it down with rain, but we were told the match would be played. We all went into the stadium early so we could eat and drink in the dry, whilst watching the football pitch get wetter and wetter. It was great to meet many new people, and some had travelled quite a distance just to come to the event. As well as the food and drinks provided by TELF recruiters, we were given snacks as we entered the ground. The tickets are only about 5.50GBP each, and they gave us all a free yoghurt drink, a rice snack and a pair of thunder sticks each!Gwangju FC won 2-0, not because they played great, but because the other team were even worse than Gwangju!By the second half the pitch was so water logged that when they kicked the ball it only moved a couple of metres!I can't believe they let the game continue, but I guess as it is rainy season now, they would constantly be calling games off.The guys with the stretcher were constantly running on to the pitch to pick up injured players.
After the match we all went downtown to Speakeasy, were they had set up Beer Pong and had some drinking competitions and free shots for us.Graham took part in the beer chug off, but was just pipped at the post for 1st position! He and Darrell did win their game of Beer Pong though. We had a fantastic evening and had our first couchsurfer come and stay!Since couchsurfing so much last year we have been wanting to host people, but as our apartment here is so small we have not advertised our couch yet on the couchsurfing website. However, on Saturday we met a new friend at the football game who needed a place to stay, so our couch came in very useful.
