Today we left te Anau we were going on a full day tour to doubtful sound, which is fiordlands. me n Graeme went to Milford sound last time so this was a different one! Got on the bus about 9am and made our way to manapouri which took about half an hour. Then we went on a boat on lake manapouri which was lovely and great views, then we got on a bus to west am to get the next boat! On ths bus we were up through mountain and the snow was so so heavy! I thot we were goin to have to stop and turn back! It was pretty as well cos everything was White! We then got to west am and boarded our 3 hour boat trip round doubtful sound. It was fabulous! The fiords are gorg and we got some really good pics! Was keeping my eye out for dolphins but we didn't see any unfortunately! It started raining a few times whih was actually quite good cos the waterfalls came out. Had lunch on the boat and got off about 3.30pm. Made our way back the same way we came but this time we stopped at the manapouri underground hydro electric station. This bus went underground a couple of hundred metres! It was like a massive cave! We got out and walked to the viewing area and got some info which was good! Then back in bus and made our way back to te Anau. got to te Anau about 6pm then headed straight for queenstown as chucky had a skydive early in the morning. Hmmm we had a slight problem, we had ran out of fuel! Graeme had been trying to get more miles out of a tank than Jamie so there had been some competition going on and no one had thought about fuel! So after a bit thankfully we found a wee place with a petrol station, Lumsden. Yay we were so relieved and went to fill up - only to find that the feckin petrol station had closed half an hour ago! We investigated and found out the nearest petrol station was now about 30-40 miles and we only had 20 or so left! So we asked someone and they said to go to Lumsden emergency services, which was a building with police, ambulance and fire station. So wwe found that and the guys couldn't have been more helpful! The main guy Owen worked at a lorry depot so he took us there and we filled up. Then invited us to go back to the station and watch the game! It was one of the most random nights ever! Turned out the firemen were all on call and they were getting a take away, some beers and watching the game (nz vs japan) with some of the wives and kids in the station! So we parked up the campervan and sat with them, had burgers and beers and wtched the game! They were an awesome bunch of people and we had a great laugh! It was funny watching the rugby with them cos they werent too bothered when nz scored, they were more interested in Japan scoring! They said as they see so much of the all blacks they like other teams to score against them! Stayed in the station till about 12am, luckily there were no call outs! We even got to try on the hats and uniform and saw the fire engines! It was quality. Headed to bed after a long but great day!
