We travelled by bus out to the rock. On the way we stopped off at Corrigin to see the dog cemetery. Hippo's Yawn was off the same car park. We were able to walk right up and along the granite ridge with views out to the salt plains scattered I between the farming land. It was a long 12 hr day with a good look at the rich wheat belt where they were harvesting.

Although a small town on the beach it was very neat and tidy with lots of different mines very close. We visited the towns Roebourne, Winham and Onslow. The ocean was warm to swim in and quite shallow at both Town and Honeymoon beaches. The wharf was very busy with at least 9 ships waiting to load all the time.

Dales Gorge camping ground was our base for a few days so we could take in a couple of the many Gorges in Karijini. Some of the dirt roads were better than others so we took those ones. The walks down were often steep and uneven but we managed them to be rewarded with a swim in the waterholes at their bases. The van park was lovely and green with easy access down to the beach. Lots of shells made walking out to the water difficult. I think 4 wheel driving along the beach and fishing is the main attraction. We did see the Coast Watch post manned but swimming wasn't recommended so I only went for a paddle in the waves. We arrived after taking the wrong 10 km dirt road to a quiet spot high on the hill, set aside by Barn Hill Station (a working cattle station) as a van park. The red cliffs protect the beach line where the long sandy beach with gentle waves was very inviting. The bowing green was an interesting patch which we didn't play on!
