Although Tom Price is a few km off the main highway we did a detour to the highest town in WA. Mining has been the heart of this town and it was good to see some of the profits going back into the town to support the young families who have opted to live in the isolation. The Rio mine tour (formally Hamersley Iron) was enjoyable with our bus driver full of knowledge about the mine and the town. One the way we noticed lots of other mines and mobile camps dotted along the highway for a variety of companies. It is mind blowing just how many people must be employed in mining.
