The journey from Jaipur to Pushkar was again supposed to be on a luxury bus! It was more like an extremely run down 105 bus from Wakefield to Agbrigg! They crammed more people on the bus than they were supposed to, but at least this time they were given plastic garden chairs to sit on down the aisle. The journey went really quickly though because we met a couple from Manchester who are currently living in China, so they were giving us some tips for that part of our journey.
Once we arrived in Pushkar we had to wait for our hotel to come and pick us up, this was on a motorbike. I was very scared and almost fell backwards when getting onto the bike due to the weight of my backpack. I was gripping onto the skinnyest man in the world for dear life. Matthew thought this was highly amusing.
The main reason for visiting Pushkar was for the annual camel fair which is a big event with camel trading, shows and events. It was held in a big fair ground and each day there was something different going on. This ranged from water pot races for women, tug of war and camel racing. It was a good experience, but was very busy and it was too much at times, at one point Matthew slapped an Indian man round the face for pinching my bottom!
After our first meal in Pushkar we were conned by the gentleman above to lay out 650 rupees (over a quarter of our daily budget) in exchange for blessings by the lake for our family members. When we knew the donation expected depended on how many familiy members we had, we decided to knock a few of you off (sorry) to try and save us money, this plan however did not work so you should all be safe and well.
Once the camel fair had finished we saw a different side of Pushkar that was a lot more laid back and relaxed. This was more befitting to its holy origins. Overall another great experience to add to our many so far.
