Well we finally arrived in Agra after another overnight 15 hr train ride to Delhi. We had to share a compartment with 3 Dutch Gay guys with the tightest 1980's jeans you have ever seen, most disconcerting when all 3 are facing you when you wake up in bed I can tell you. But not as eye opening as the second class in with the locals train journey from delhi - Agra which took 3and half hours. Rugby scrum to get on and rugby scrum to get off and all for the equivalent of a park bench with 10 Indians on it. The Indians were nice and offered us seats even though Gemma and I could only manage one cheek each. Thanks but no thanks for future journeys like this.
Once we got to our hotel and dumped our bags we went to the rooftop restaurant. Nothing could have prepared us for the amazing view we had of the Taj Mahal. We decided on an early start the next morning to see the Taj at sunrise with not many people about. The 5.30 start meant that Matthew didn't speak for the first hour, apart from to snap an an American guy ( he did deserve it though). Once inside we took some amazing photos, 79 to be exact ( Matthew turned into a Japanese Tourist). It was definately worth spending the first hour getting the silent treatment! No matter how many photos you take of the Taj Mahal, its nothing compared to actually being there.
Although the Taj Mahal dominated our stay in Agra, we did see Agra Fort, which was nothing compared to the Red Fort as was very similar. We also crossed the river to see the baby Taj which looked like a trial run for the Taj Mahal. Matthew got very artistic with his photos, hopefully you will get to see these soon.
Although Agra was an other dry town, we managed to find somewhere who would sell us a cold beer. The bottles had to remain on the floor and we were given the smallest glasses in the world!!! It did mean the beer lasted us longer though.
Kingfisher lager beats the carling in the New Inn. At least some Indians can get it right!! next Stop Jaipur on Saturday.
