Sore Arses!

I know we keep mentioning our journeys but this was the worst of the lot. We were told this would be a luxury sleeper bus but the sleeping compartment was more like a goldfish bowl and with roads being so bumpy we did'nt get any sleep the whole way there. When we arrived we were both poorly for 2 days and did'nt do much accept sleep.

On arrival to Jaisalmer there we alot of touts from guesthouses looking for tourists. A nice man called Chandra came and offered us a lift into Jaisalmer to get away from the scrum. He showed us his own hotel and so we went there and it was ok. Once we were both ok, we had a walk around the lake and the fort. We both really liked it here as it was fairly quiet and we didn't get any hassle from anyone.

Chandra also did camel treks into the Thar desert and it is a well established company in Jaisalmer with some excellent recommendations from people that had been. There was 2 options one night or 2 and we decided to do 2, had we known how sore our arses would of felt at that stage I think we may have decided on the shorter option.

After all the pain was well worth it. We were within a group of 8 people and we all had our own camel. This was'nt as tricky as you would imagine as the camels did just follow each other and did what they wanted anyway, which led to some funny moments with people stopping and camel wandering through low trees and bush. The 6 indians that looked after us added to the experience with traditional cooking methods and banter around the camp fire. We slept in the dunes under the stars for the 2 nights which although was cold to the head was amazing as on the first night we saw 2 shooting stars.

We were also taken to some local villages which was another really good experience, seeing how they build their houses and how they live in such small spaces. At the first village we visited, the children were amazed by how white Matthews arms were and kept wanting to touch him. I found this quite amusing.

Although i was a bit sceptacle about riding a camel for 3 days, it was fantastic. Even though i did have the oldest camel that kept having to be whacked up the arse to get him moving. We would both highly recommend this experience to anyone, but be warned there will be no sitting down for about 3 days afterwards.
