Yesterday was the day we left River Valley for good! Although we're over the moon not to be slaving away most of the day it was very sad to say farewell to the gang.. They were such a hilarious, friendly and interesting lot that, and I can speak for both of us, it'll be a surprise to find a similar bunch ever again! We made an occasion of the finish to our slave days by doing the dreaded and infamous 'River Run' - a potent combination of Vodka, Sambuca, Drambuie and Tequila one after the other. We both managed to do it but didn't feel so good for it, lets say no more! Early the next morning, when we didn't really feel in too good a form, we did our second free activity - horse riding! I got a horse called Maggie and Catherine got a horse named Minstrel. We set off at 9a.m. after a short talk by our guide for a few hours over the rolling hills of the beautiful surrounding area. Despite my horse trying to eat every blade of grass in sight and Mistrel occasionally disobeying Catherine's commands we had a great time and felt like cowboys in no time.. we even cantered. We really had a good final morning but we were pretty glad to give our bodies a rest after the horses! After a goodbye to Derek, Dave, Phil, Ranga, Janelle, Spencer, Melissa, Ben and Jenny we set off on our 5 hour journey to the windy capital of Wellington. Much to our delight we were put in a 6 bed ensuite dorm for the price of a 10 bed dorm because of an overcrowd in the bigger dorms.. Smashing start. We then grabbed a 2 dollar dinner, similar to Thailand prices, and got a bit of shopping and then watched a bit of LOTR in the common room! This morning we had a wee lay in then went to Te Papa museum. It's the national museum and we spent all day there! We saw a lot of interesting stuff - best of all was the 3 trolls from The Hobbit, the largest found invertebrate ever (a preserved giant squid), a life scale size of a Moa (the worlds biggest bird), a skeleton of a huge whale and learnt a lot about Maori culture. We then set back to the hostel for our 2 dollar dinner and just chilled for the evening. Tomorrow we plan to climb Mt Victoria so expect a lot of good views of the capital. Also, we just received our Waitomo caving photos and we'll upload them ASAP! But for now, goodnight!
