I'm not a big fan of travel days.... I love travelling and going to all these wonderful places but the actual getting there stuff is long and tedious!
For some reason I had my alarm set for 6.30 thinking we had to leave the room by 7.30 even though the car wasn't picking us up until 8.45..... Ugh, I get my 45's mixed up! Anyway we were all packed and ready to head downstairs an hour early so I went for a wander to find a cup of tea... No kettle or coffee maker in this room unfortunately. Had to walk a block to Denny's just for them to give me 2 cups of boiling water and a couple teabags.... They don't even brew it for you!
Finally it's time to head out at 8.30. I had booked Presidential Limos return airport special so we had a lovely white stretch limo pick us up and a really nice driver named Adele. In no time we were at the airport, checked in and through security. Time for breakfast and as we are on holidays we decided we were allowed a drink with breakfast..... Don't judge, we are in Vegas still!! Rodd had an Angry Orchard (apple cider) and I had a yummy coffee (with a bit of Baileys and Kahlua). The waitress was really funny and played along with Rodd when he said something about drinking so early, she poured his cider out of the bottle into a glass and said "here's your apple juice sir" a couple times as she went past she'd say "how's your apple juice"?
We did have a little excitement at the gate whilst waiting to board. They kept saying as it is a full flight they were going to be quite strict on the carry on limits, size and weight, and had pointed out one woman's bag as an example of an over sized bag. We didn't see exactly what happened next but we assume they actually told her she would have to check her bag and she just went off her head at them. She was standing there arguing with the gate staff for about 10 minutes. Finally as we were boarding she was a couple people in front of us and was right in the middle of the air bridge again arguing and holding up those of us behind so we couldn't board. Next thing we heard the staff tell her she was not going to be allowed to board.... Her husband was quite happy to board without her! We think she had called the staff member a b...h but when she apologised they ended up letting her board.... They were sitting right behind us so we heard them whinging about it for sometime through the flight. I just don't understand people that carry on and make a spectacle of themselves like that, I mean did she really think she could win that battle?
Anyway apart from being delayed by about 40 minutes due to "a slight technical difficulty" (which is something you never want to hear whilst strapped into an aircraft seat) we had an uneventful flight. I slept, Rodd watched the entertainment screen. We arrived at JFK only 20 minutes behind schedule just after 8, picked up our bags and headed out into -2 temps with snow on the ground..... Rodd stood in the Taxi line in his T-Shirt for about a minute before getting out his jacket, silly man!
It would have been about 9.30 pm by the time we got to the Q & A Hotel... Actually the cab driver couldn't find it so I had to tell him where it was and then he was all like "hmmm how can I get to the door" cos it's in a one way street..... Anyway we got out of the cab a block and a half away and walked up the street!
The staff at reception were so lovely, we chatted to them for a bit and promised to drop some Vegemite and koalas off tomorrow then Jason took us up to our room. I'm glad he did cos it's a bit of a rabbit warren and we could have been wandering the halls for ages otherwise. Dropped bags then a quick walk around the block to get some supplies (food, beer and wine). It must have been midnight when we went to bed but we did lose 3 hours flying from the west coast to the east coast.
