Thursday 2nd Feb is the morning we fly to New York City and Cass flys to LA for 3 days/2 nights. Our wonderful friends Jeanne and Rog have a daughter Kaylan who lives in LA and Cass and Kay have been facebooking over the last few weeks! Kaylan organised to meet Cass and show her around LA, I think it's just lovely what generous natured people we know! Cassie's boyfriend also flew in from Canada to spend some time with her in LA..... I'm sure they all had a great time although we haven't heard from her!!
Not much to tell about the trip to NYC, except I will say we found Delta to be fantastic. Constant attention from the flight attendants asking if we needed water or anything else. Flight was actually 20 mins early arriving and our bags ( which we have had to check in because of weight ) were at the carousel a minute after we arrived there.
I had booked a car through Dial 7 ( another tip I picked up on TripAdvisor ). We picked up the freecall phone, rang and the car was there in 5 mins. Black Lincoln towncar!! The traffic is horrendous here and, I guess like any large city, they all drive like crazy people. Although I must say you can step off the sidewalk ( ohhhh sorry footpath!! ) and cars just give way to you!!
Ok so we got to the Hotel around 3ish unpacked then headed out to find a store to stock up...yay.. we have a kitchen in this room so we can cook breakfast and dinner most days to save a bit of money. I put Grocery store into my Yelp App in my iPhone and voila!!! just around the corner was a great little supermarket. $100 later we're all loaded up with eggs, ham, milk etc and the makings for a beef stirfry. It's nice to have a homecooked meal, especially since we're away 5 weeks!!
First night all we did was walk up to Times Square had one drink at Planet Hollywood and walked back... oh hang on, on the way there we went into Grand Central Terminal. OMG that place is amazing, it's HUGE!! We thought it would be best to buy our 7 day unlimited Metro Pass tonight so we're all set in the morning, I'm glad we did cos we spent 10 mins wandering around just trying to find the subway and where to buy tickets!! Finally asked someone and "it's a right, another right and down the stairs"!!!
Big day tomorrow .. midnight and finally collapsing into bed. Oh and Mum and Dad don't worry about Rodd, he's definitely on the mend!

Debra Hey Larn & Rodd - Can't wait to hear about your adventures in NYC - how cold is it? Are you coping clothes wise or are you freezing to death? x
Mum Oh, this is all so exciting..if i wasn't looking at the photos etc I could hardly believe you're over there and yet, able to be in touch this way. Looks like you had great fun with the shopping and yes, it's wonderful you have that nice room and great little kitchen. I HOPE our Bugalugs really IS better..now you can do all the sight seeing by day and afford to stay in on cold evenings for a home cooked meal...and an early night! The train passes are a great idea...by the way Rodd, what's with the police over there? Are they as super friendly as they seem? or do you just keep on "bumping into them" and start a conversation??
Elaine Keast Hey there Liane & Rodd, seems like you are having a great time, love the pictures, feels like we are there with you. Looking forward to the next pics. Elaine
Frank and Barbara Michell I noticed that you flew over CLIFTON while flight pathing into New York...Dad
cafe_travel Fantastic shot. I love aerial views.
cafe_travel Hmmmm no we don't...but read the list of ingredients before you get envious! Do they even contain broccoli? I won't start on my diatribe about the American diet and processed foods here! For safety's sake just buy fresh broccoli.
cafe_travel I love Grand Central, it's a beautiful piece of architecture.
cafe_travel oo oo oo oo oo!! One of my FAVOURITE places in NYC! Did you do all the chocolate shops and a walk down broadway too? Did you go on the Ferris Wheel in Toys R Us! NOW I'm jealous!!
cafe_travel MetCard rocks!
cafe_travel You hired a care in New York?! OMG! Crazy, CRAZY traffic so hope you don't find it too stressful. You're in one of my favourite cities now. You're going to love it...what's not to love?! Don't forget Katz's Deli, The High Line, Alphabet City, Cocktails in the Met Sculpture Garden on Friday nights....ohhhh so many fabulous places.
footloose_llr Gabby we didn't hire a car... what I meant was we got a car service.. Dial 7 to be precise!! We haven't even been into Toys'R'us but have been passed it!
