We started the day bright and early, once again cooking up some eggs and tomato...... In fact Rodd cooked as he was awake really really early since he'd slept on and off all afternoon yesterday and then all night so I was lucky enough to get breakfast served to me in bed!
By 9.30 we'd walked the 10 minutes needed to get us to One World, the new World Trade building. It is truly an impressive looking structure built just beside the memorial pools. Coming at this time of year and also nice and early we got straight to the ticket window and security without any delay whatsoever. Within a few minutes of arriving we were starting our experience at OWO..... WOW what an experience!! From the time you step into the lifts to be whisked 1250 feet upwards it begins. I wish I'd known what to expect cos I would have had a video camera ready.... The lifts walls become LCD screens and show the area from pre civilisation to today in time lapse style, very cool. Out of the lift and lined up against a wall where there is another video display, well I won't tell you what happens in case someone goes there because to know would spoil the visual impact.
Then its out to view the magnificent 360 views, quite the most spectacular observation deck I've ever seen! They have a short presentation with a guide talking you through the city which we found very interesting.... We had actually been talking to him for a few minutes before the presentation and he was such a likeable friendly bloke, very passionate about NYC as he grew up here. This is one thing I would say is a definite "don't miss" in NYC.... There's more though!
After this we jumped on the uptown E to Times Square where we went up to street level and went to the Yankees Clubhouse Store, well I make it sound that easy but when we hit the street I had to flatten myself against a wall, whip out my phone and try to work out which way is up....man that's tough!! It had said online that we could buy the tour tickets there.... Turns out you can't do that anymore but the girl gave me a number to call, I tried but no answer or rather just an answering machine so after Rodd bought some Yankees goodies we decided to go up to the Stadium anyway and see if we could get in. Shuttle to GCT then the express 4 to 161st - Yankee Stadium. We bought our tickets but had just over 1/2 hour before the tour so luckily there's a Hard Rock Cafe right outside the Stadium, we had an Apple cider each and shared a yummy Margherita pizza on the nicest thin crispy base and were finished right at the perfect time to join our tour.
The tour was interesting. Not really my cup of tea but Rodd is a fanatic baseball fan so, well, you know.....the things we do! I'm sure I'll get him back. Tour finished we popped in for one more cider before jumping back on the express 4 all the way back to Wall Street.... God I love the subway!
Must have been somewhere between 3 and 4 when we got to the Motel so of course it's nana nap time.... I had a tiny bit but wanted....needed..... to get this blog done so I spent the time typing and cursing Travelpod as I tried uploading photos while Rodd snored peacefully!! As I said before I'll see what I can do with the pics but more than likely I'll just post the entry without pics and put them in at home, I've got a lot on Facebook anyway.
I had booked the Comedy Cellar for 7.30 tonight so we set out around six. Crossed the street into the subway station, straight onto the 2, next stop Fulton Street where we transferred to the C and off at W4th St..... whole trip only took about 10-15 mins. Once again I was totally turned around when we surfaced and walked a very little way the wrong direction before orienting myself but we were just one block over from where we should have been. The problem happens when you pick the wrong exit, as you get off the train this mass of people just pour together up the stairs, along passageways and up more stairs, peeling off in different directions but all moving so fast. You can't just stop and get your bearings or you cause the domino effect. Never mind.....once I got the iPhone out I did managed to sort it out!
As we were a little early we were going to byChloe to sample some dishes, unfortunately there was such a long line we gave it a miss and said we'd try later. What to do then for an hour? Hmmm that's a tough one.....drink maybe? Oh alright! So we had one or two and then it was time to go to the club. Having made a reservation we got seated almost right away instead of having to stand outside in the cold, as we walked in the guy at the door said, "turn off your cell phone and no photos or videos"! We were seated right smack bang in front of the stage, I wish I had a photo cos it's a very intimate setting.....as in you're all sitting in a line practically shoulder to shoulder with only a small round table between you and the stage! Yes we were in the spotlight so the comedians could see us and engage! Rodd was in his element, of course not all of the acts included audience torture....oh sorry, participation.... But all those that did seemed to hone in on us...the Aussies.... One of them Rodd gave a koala and Vegemite to and it became part of his routine, he was brilliant at ad lib, Steve Irwin, crocodiles, convicts, Tasmanians!! He was hilarious. The surprise act of the night was Amy Schumer, everyone went wild when she came out "OMG....it's AMY SCHUMER" but to tell you the truth she was the least funny of all the acts for the night!! Once the show was over and everyone was leaving we thought we'd get in a sneaky photo and I managed to snap one before some woman started yelling at us "no photos", there was a sign on the table saying no photos and anyone caught using a recording device of any kind would be asked to leave immediately, no arguments and no second chances which I completely understand during the show but before and after? That was the only negative and it wasn't even that big a deal. This is another thing I'd say "don't miss" as it was a great night out. Total cost at the club was $70 with tip and we had a few nibbles with our drinks as well.
After the show we went back to byChloe and ordered some food to take home stopping only to have one drink at the "Fat Black Pussycat" as we got a 50% off voucher with the Comedy Club entry. Return trip on the subway was just as easy and while on the train I googled pizza in our area for Rodd cos he's more a pizza kind of guy than a vegan one! Home to eat and collapse into bed around 1am.

Lyndal Would love to go to the One World Centre - 9/11 was one of those things we all remember where we were and the moment it happened...sound like they've done a really nice memorial to capture the spirit
Lyndal Seems like it is very peaceful?? but would be extremely emotional...
