We left Hervey Bay and told the boys we were going to Byron Bay but we drove into the Gold Coast and surprised the boys by setting up at beautiful Burleigh Heads. The boys were excited and even more so when we dropped the next surprise that we planned to go to Dreamworld! Once we arrived at the caravan park we set up and went to the beach across the road, it was a beautiful spot and full of people.
The next day we went for a drive to Snapper Rocks where the boys all went bodysurfing. It was so enjoyable watching them and the other surfers cruise on the perfect waves. Then we drove right into the middle of Surfers Paradise where we walked along the beach and then went to a few shops in Cavill Avenue. We saw lots of interesting people along the way too. Then we went to back to the van and had lunch in peace. The boys went to back to Burleigh beach that afternoon while I read my book and sorted the washing. That evening we went out for tea at the surf club, it was a beautiful outlook over the water as the sunset and a delicious meal.
The next morning we got up early and drove to DREAM WORLD!!!!! Lachie said it felt like Christmas!
We went on heaps of rides many times such as the Hot Wheels Sidewinder rollercoster, The Claw, Tail Spin and a motorbike rollercoaster which took off very fast. It was Lachie and Will's favourite. Ben and Jack went on the extreme Buzzsaw and The Giant Drop.
After lunch we went over to the water park where we went on the Wedgie, the Green room and another few regular slides. The Wedgie is a super-fast slide where the operator presses a button and the floor drops away beneath you and you plummet down into a narrow, winding tube speeding down, then you come out into a pool of water at the bottom. The Green Room is a wide, dark tunnel with a four person tube that comes out into a huge bit like a funnel, where you swoosh around a few times sliding high up the walls . Needless to say I screamed all the way down.
We were all disappointed in the amount of rides that were closed for maintenance, in particular, the Tower of Terror, which we went to Dreamworld in particular to go on before it shuts down completely.
Before we left we went in to a simulator ride called Sky Voyager. We almost didn't go in because we actually didn't know what it was but wow, we are so glad we did. It was magnificent!! It was a simulated flight through all the various, stunning landscapes of Australia, an absolutely fitting way to finish our trip.
It was a brilliant day, and I'm incredibly proud of the boys, in particular Lachie and Will, for being brave and going out their comfort zone to take on a new adventure. We were all very weary and slept like logs that evening.
