Well, we've hit the road again, four years after our last trek and we were all feeling a little sad to be leaving home but very excited about the adventure to come. Our first leg was to Moree and we loved seeing the incredible, wide plains and endless paddocks of cotton farms.

Once we arrived in Moree we were super keen to hit the pools! The boys wore off some energy swimming laps in the big pool and Ben enjoyed relaxing in the 39 degree hotpool.

Next day we had a huge drive north and west, almost 700kms, crossing the border at Mungindi and stopping along the way to see such things as the beautifully painted silos in Thallon and having lunch by the 'river' (weir) in St George. We stopped for ice-creams at Mitchell and loved the pretty, well kept little town. Along the way we saw flocks? of emus, a pair of echidnas crossing the road, kites constantly wheeling all around and countless station signs. I really enjoyed watching the scenery and landscape change, from barren plains to scrubby woodlands and back again.

As we came closer to Augathella there were road signs with local trivia questions to encourage drivers to stay awake (very handy). One question asked "What is the mascot for the Augathella rugby league team?" Later down the road, after we'd all had time to discuss and make our guesses, there was the answer on another sign. I'm not going to tell you what it is, you'll have to find out for yourself, lol ;)

Finally, we arrived in Augathella in the late afternoon, another very pretty, well kept little town. The boys took no encouragement to run off and explore. We enjoyed a refreshment at the local pub across the road then enjoyed the company of another travelling couple (Doug and Kate)around the campfire after dinner. He had been a tour guide in the Kimberly for many years so he had lots of interesting stories to relate. After Lachie told him that his worst memory of our previous trip was his brothers losing his boomerang, Doug very generously gave Lachie a souvenier boomerang of his own! I'm sure this will be something neither of them will forget. :)
