Day 6: We were up and at 'em early today...perhaps it was the need to be above ground?
We said our farewells to the very interesting town of Coober Pedy, and headed north to our next stop, Erldunda Roadhouse.
Miles and miles of flat, dry land. Station sign after station sign warning us about the hazards of cattle on the road. Well, I wish I had of seen a cow, at least it would have changed the scenery.
We hit the SA/NT Border about 12.30, but decided to push on to Erldunda for a late lunch.
I was pretty chuffed to be back in the Top End. Not since I was in Year 4 had I been here...I was a little excited!
We travelled behind a Road Train carrying 3 demountable buildings for the last hour of the leg to Erldunda...not much choice when you're towing a van and the road is not very wide. He was fortunately doing 100km.
When we arrived at Erldunda, we ate, but decided we could push on to Uluru. It was 3pm, it was hot and there was nothing to do at Erldunda! At least at the Ayers Rock Resort we knew there was a pool.
So we drove on and pulled into our spot in the Ayers Rock Resort just before 6pm. Wow! A massive day of driving (by me I'll have you know), but we are here at Uluru for 3 nights, so we will chill and enjoy the surroundings.
Let me just say...coming to Uluru is a dream come true for me! I always used to pay out on my parents for never taking us to Ayers Rock (as it was known back in the 70's & 80's), when we lived in Darwin. Now I can appreciate why...it is sooooo far away from everywhere! It really is the centre of Australia. But here I am. Woo hoo!
