Day 9: We left Uluru (sadly) and headed to Kings Canyon.
I did however make a quick pit-stop at the local IGA and invest $30 in five head nets...money well spent after days of putting up with the millions of bush flies! It's no fashion show, but as you all know, I'm not one for glamour! And as you'll see in the photos, we ALL LOVE them.
We arrived at Kings Creek Station where they have a great campground. We set the van up and headed straight for the canyon as we only had the afternoon and next morning to explore.
It was still very hot, so we only did the Kings Creek Walk, but lovely all the same, looking up at the canyon as we followed the creek. It is amazing the rock formations, all little domes...and again the colour, red red red. The camera cannot capture its true intensity.
Back at camp the boys had an awesome time playing war games with their new headgear (nets)...it was a good opportunity for them to chill and play like normal. We all enjoyed a beautiful refreshing swim (as all the outback campgrounds offer...thank goodness), which was a nice way to wind down after a full day.
The boys and I collected firewood from the side of the road and whilst doing that 2 wild (we think) horses were feeding on the side of the road. One came across and Darcy was able to pat it, so I'm not sure how 'wild' they really are (perhaps too many tourists?).
We enjoyed dinner and a lovely campfire, courtesy of the boys and their flints(coming in handy after all!). We spent the evening star-gazing for as you can imagine, they are crystal-clear in the outback.
Another memory made...
