Day 54: Yellow Water Billabong sunrise cruise.
I arise to the quiet sound of my alarm, telling me it's 5.50am! I stagger to the bathroom, and by the time I get back, all boys are up and ready.
We head to the bus that will take us to the dark watery wonderland that is Yellow Water. Everyone on board looks dreary eyed, so we dont look out of place.
We arrive and board the vessel, and then proceed to wait for 20 more stragglers.
The boat takes us along the billabong, which is the last of the seven billabongs created by Jim Jim Falls. We then join the South Alligator River, and watch the sun rise...lovely.
The next two hours are spent traversing the waterways spying birds of many varieties, including the elusive, and the one I have been waiting for, Magpie Geese. And the odd croc or two, or three, or four...
The tour ends with a hearty buffet breakfast back at the restaurant, and of course we stuff ourselves silly.
With bellies full and the sun bearing down on us, we head to the pool to cool off. We pass the rest of the morning here, and lunch time comes and goes.
We take a trip to look at the Jim Jim Billabong (number 6 I presume) and some bush camping spots down the road.
On our return to Cooinda, we check out the Cultural Centre, which is excellent. A very informative and well designed place, telling of how the indigenous people of this area lived and are still living.
The night brings the biters, so it's in the caravan we go...
