Last night I was treated to a trip to a typical Mexican wrestling match. A Mexican wrestling match entails watching several chubby Mexican men dressed in skimpy super hero outfits attack each other on the most comic fashion. Instead of throwing punches they slap each other and every move is extremely staged, almost as if in slow motion. Despite this I'm assured that it is all made up on the spot, not pre choreographed. They hurl themselves from the ropes of the boxing ring landing slap bang flat on top of each other or else stand before the audience with their back turned to their attacker, flexing their muscles. The whole thing reminds me of the classic avengers stunts and somehow it's tense, ridiculous and funny all at the same time. From the scantly clad girls who hold up the round numbers, to the abusive shouts of the audience, the whole thing oozes atmosphere and just in case it's not Mexican enough there are vendors walking round with baskets selling corona and chilli flavoured popcorn
