Puerto Escondido is another super chill surfer town just south of Oaxaca and feels good to be back at the beach. It's a seven hour bus ride round a twisty mountain top road and the warning from fellow travellers to buy motion sickness tablets is well advised. The hostel, run by a tan 20 something American surfer guy, is brand new and the walls are still being painted and decorated by various artists. It's so cool, everyone's super friendly and I feel right at home. The local beach is stunning but unfortunately the waves here are pretty much non-existent and as I'm too lazy to organise an expedition to any of the beaches further afield, I don't get nearly as much surfing in here as in Sayulita. We did however head to Barra beach one night at sunset to release some baby turtles into the water and save them from the massacre of seagulls which would attack if they were left to find their own way in. It's pretty amazing watching thousands of tiny black sea turtles instinctively find their way towards the ocean.
Another excursion to see the dolphins was not quite so successful in that we didn't see any dolphins (apparently a rare case of bad luck), however we did see some flipping manta-rays so it wasn't all bad. Glad to have had another chill out week at the beach I'm headed back to Mexico City for the Electronic Daisy Carnival music festival.
