Tequila is a quaint little town focused on, you guessed it, tequila. Filled to the brim with souvenir shops selling everything from shot glasses to sombreros, it's sunny outlook attracts tourists from all over. I went with a trip organised by the tequila hostel in Guadalajara. First we were shown the plantations where they grow the tequila plant (right next to the volcano tequila which is instead pronounced tek-kwee-lar). The plants are large, spiky, resemble a pineapple top and taste like very mild coconut. A man in a cowboy hat and sandals explained to us the wondrous multiple uses of the plant and we all took some quick snaps before jumping back in the bus. In the town we stopped for a quick margarita before continuing on to the factory where we learnt about the ageing process and 5 types of tequila; tequila blanco, tequila joven, tequila reposado, tequila añejo and tequila extra añejo. We even got a few samples before heading out for our second free margarita of the day, a nice lunch and a wander around the shops and market stalls.
