FARFRUMWURKEN
Like always, I have to end my travel blog in Abbotsford just so that I can close off the loop. I've had the time to spend four hours on the ADO bus traveling to Cancun. Then another five (5) hours on a WestJet flight into Vancouver - I guess I've had a little time for reflection on the past 30+ days in Mexico. When I sit down and really think about what we've done, it kind of amazes me. I think some people would return home and say "What did we do"?, but I don't think that will really happen to us. Over the last few years we've spent a few months collectively here, we've got accustomed to the way things work SOTB. I guess that some people just expect glass & chrome, fancy shopping and luxurious hotels like NOTB but for the most part that's just not Merida, especially in the Colonial district. When we were packing up, we were sad that we were leaving. In the space of thirty days, we met some really nice people, people who will form the next part of our life adventure. By doing what we've done, we have set out on a new path for the third period of our life. When we're at home, we look at each other, pretty much each morning and say "what are we going to do today?". In Merida we'll have so much more to do, so much more to explore. It's kinda funny how things develop with relationships - you think about people who are your friends - people that you've known for years and years and years - but are they really your friends - people change, their attitudes change - and over time I guess you just have to question what a true friend really is. It really is a nice thing to make new friends. When Bob & Denice came into our life some twenty odd days ago, I never realized just how nice people can be, how genuine and helpful they can be - We're so very glad that they've entered our life and look forward to their friendship for many years to come. Collectively during the time that we spent in Merida, we've put together a good team of professionals, from legal and banking to construction and design, something we feel very comfortable with. We're hopeful that this doesn't come back and bite us in the ass, but at this point I would say that it's highly unlikely. I don't know just how long it will be before we return to Cancun/Merida but we're excited for the next year or so to see how this develops. When we were sitting in the ADO Bus station, there was another "gringo" couple just sitting a few seats away from us. We could hear the English, so I leaned over and asked them if they were heading home. "Yes" was the response, they had spent the past five days in Merida looking for a house to buy, with the exact same real estate (Colm) agent that had sold us our lot. Small world, it certainly is in the "expat" community in Merida. We've exchanged cards and look forward to a get-together when we both get established. Funny how things work. For now, I go to sleep thinking about the new casa, I wake up thinking about the new casa, I've probably walked the halls 1,000 times and I don't even have a plan in front of me, but I can see it. I just hope that what I envision turns out to be reality. I've had a lot of "reads" on my travel blog for this adventure in Mexico, so I have to again thank you for taking the time to read my stuff. We'll be home for five months this time, saving up for our next adventure to Newfoundland in September which will start out of Toronto on September 11th, so stay tuned for our next adventure - for the time being we'll be stuck in Abbotsford saving and saving for those Mexican Peso invoices that will be sure to follow.
