FARFRUMWURKEN
Everything on travel day went well from a transportation point-of-view. While it did start to snow just as we were ready to taxi to the runway so it required a little de-icing, but what's new in the great Vancouver area for 2017. It's been one hell of a year snow-wise, it's good to get out of Dodge for a nice R&R break. We were on a West Jet 737-800 for our 5 hour 35 minute fight direct into Cancun. I've been here before on some of our cruise ship itineraries, but I guess I just never realized the overall size of this city. After a couple movies and a CNN fix, on a very smooth flight, we arrived 15 minutes ahead of time. The baggage pickup and customs clearance went very smoothly and we were out of the airport and in our cab with Jose in less than 30 minutes. Jose's broken English was good enough to let me know that our hotel Krystal Cancun was about a 25-minute drive and that he had family in Regina, Saskatchewan. WOW. I never would have considered Cancun as a large metropolitan area, but it's current population tops 1,000,000 + and seems to be very upscale in terms of hotels, restaurants and info structure. After check-in at the hotel, we went directly to the courtesy phones to let Terry & Angie know that we had arrived - but no answer - where could they be? We arrived in our room (1522) and again I made a call to their room (1534) but no answer - and immediately I hung up, there was a knock at the door. It was really good to see a dear friend after again after two long years of absence.. Dinner was the order of the day, so we selected a Mexican buffet in the hotel, complete with Meriache band. Our 350 Peso all-inclusive ($17.50US) dinner was OK I suppose, but it gave us a chance to catch-up and swap some war stories in between the blaring Mexican music. It was dark by the time we arrived at the hotel, so we'll do a little exploring today. We need to get our bus reservations at the Cancun ADO bus terminal so that we can take the 3-hour ride into Merida on Wednesday. As I write this, it's 5:09 am and Deb's is still asleep, so I'm catching up on my travel updates from my bed. We held our bedroom draw last night in our room and through the luck of the cards, Terry & Angie were the winners. It was the only real fair way to determine who gets the Master suite by the pool at Casa Musa.
