Bonjour - from a STILL rainy France, when will it stop ??!!
So after a lovely run along the seafront at San Sebastian, we moved back into France - it's funny as there's no border control - one minute the signs are Spanish and next French !
We had a couple of nights at a campsite outside Bordeaux and a lovely day in the city - it's undergone some major re-working in recent years and has a pedestrian area, lovely riverside walking area and a new tram service which is very modern. We found a great flea market to wander around and then went to the CAPC modern art museum - there was an exhibition of the modern sculptures of Tomoaki Suzuki - if you have a chance he is really worth checking out - they are hand carved people, all about 12 inches tall and stand up without assistance - they are very modern in style, like a graffiti artist, or a women dressed up chav style. They were set in a really spacious old warehouse so the setting really gave impact to the sculptures and we really enjoyed the exhibition after so much older art on this trip.
We moved on from Bordeaux to the Marais Poitevin area, which is known as 'Green Venice' it was a beautiful area, lots of little canals but within a nature setting, and a great area for walking, cycling and canoeing / boating. We did both of the former but it was too rainy to take a boat out. We were near a military airbase and were amazed to see a drone flying over one day - it was so quiet and such a strange sight in such a picturesque area. We also went out to La Rochelle for the day, unfortunately another rainy one, so we didn't get to enjoy the port or restaurants very much but we had a curious walk around the Animation and Miniature museums, both amusingly set in the circa 1970's !
We were lucky enough to have the campsite virtually to ourselves so we had a great view daily, and we saw water rats, ducks, hare and deer. The ducks were so confident you could hand feed them !
We have now driven up to Brittany, for our final house sit. We have 2 weeks in a converted railway station. The old track has been turned into a Voie Verte (walking / cycling track) so I have no excuses to avoid running. We have 2 very shy cats and a dear little old dog to walk - apparantly she is used to a daily stroll to the local bar for a pint so that will be fun. There is the French FA cup on on Saturday and two local teams, Rennes and a team which isn't even in a league are the finals are competing so I think we will also pop to the bar to watch that and cheer on one of the locals.
Love to you all x x
