Bonjour !
Bienvenue to our blog. So, we're starting to recall some school French ! And we're having to use it as so far we haven't met any campsite / shop owners who speak English !
We had a very calm crossing from Caen, and drove a couple of hours south to pitch up just above Mayenne - a beautiful campsite right on the river. We had 2 blisteringly hot days there before a whole days drive through the Loire and down to just outside Limoges where we had 3 nights camping by a beautiful lake.
We went to Oradour Sur Glanes (Libby, I remembered it !) which is an incredible ruined village - all the residents were murdered in WW2 and the village remains as it was - it's a very moving testament to the inhumanity of war as well as a fascinating part of old history, with all the old cars.
We've had a couple of days of rain now, and packed the tent down in the rain this morning - we have moved further south for 2 nights at Sarlat de Caneda which is supposed to be a beautiful medieval city.
There's not much excitement to report at the moment, just thought I would check in ! We did see scorpions at the campsite yesterday but turned out on closer inspection to be crayfish that seemed to be migrating inland - better brush up on our insect knowledge as well as our French !
Over and out from France, love to you all x x x
