Bonjour.....
So we moved from Munich to Waldsee, a campsite by a lake where we'd hoped to spend a few days. Sadly the campsite didn't match our expectations - I think it had been built - and left - in the 1970's! In fact I'm not sure it had been mowed or weeded since then either! Our camping pitch was lovely and shady which we needed since it was over 30 degrees but it was small and on the walk to the toilets so every 5 minutes there was someone going past to say 'Morgen' to, which got tedious after all of about 5 minutes!
We did stay 2 nights, had a lovely chill out by the lake which was very picturesque with a little sandy beach, lots of willow trees and seating.
On the second night we did a late night walk around the lake, it was beautiful - the coloured lights were reflected in the water which was reminiscent of Canoe Lake in Southsea and we saw a large hedgehog which was really cool, also circa 1970's since we last saw one.
After deliberating, we decided to come back to the lovely campsite in Nancy - it's been our favourite place and we wanted something we knew before we move to Spa for the Grand Prix weekend on Friday.
Since we have been back here it's been super hot so we are very glad of the pool to dip in and out of - it isn't heated, so it's very cold as it doesn't have a shallow end, but it's great to go in and the campsite is very pretty with lots of trees for shade.
We open planned the tent to give us more air, I will upload a picture. Since we have been back we have been into Nancy again, exploring the park and taking the tourist train. Nancy cathedral was really stunning - the stained glass looked amazing in the sunshine and they were playing choral music so it had a great atmosphere. Despite my atheist views, I love a church or cathedral and we have been lighting a candle in each one for my mum which I think she would have loved.
We had a delicious 'plat du jour' lunch out - goats cheese / salmon starters, steak and pepper sauce / lamb main course and strawberry sundae / rum baba dessert, all for 24 euros each.
Yesterday, despite the heat, we hired bikes and cycled 20kms. The cycle paths are excellent, wide and well tarmac'd and we followed the river Mouselle to another village which was very pretty with some lovely gardens although you never see a soul when you're about.
We have booked a hotel in Nancy for Thursday night so we can have dinner in the city and see a light show which they put on. We will then drive from there to Spa on Friday and pitch up for the weekend, not expecting too much on the facilities, I imagine it will be very festival like with portaloos and no showers but I think it will have a great atmosphere - apparantly there are djs and live music in the evenings and a real party atmosphere so not expecting much sleep!!
Love to you all x x
