We knew we were in for long but rewarding day today. We were well and truly in the mountains now, constant glimpses of snow patches, moose warning signs, waterfalls that seemed to have no defined starting point cascading down what seemed like sheer cliff faces. All of it spectacular. Our first planned stop was Dalsnibba, a 1500metre vantage point that overlooked the town of Geiranger, at the head of the Geiranger Fjord. The road up was just a constant parade of hairpin bends. I lost count. Gradient was about 1 in 10. Once we reached the top spectacular doesn't do it justice, but it's the best I can come up with. The view down into the Fjord and the township of Geiranger was stunning, as was the view across the mountain ranges. After taking that in we descended down to Geiranger where we enjoyed a picnic lunch next to the Fjord. From there is was then another drive up through 11 hairpin bends and then across a plateau until we reached the famed Trollstigen. Another steep, twisting descent into the valley. All accompanied by magnificent views. It was a fairly leisurely drive into our overnight stop at Andalsnes. Dinner on our deck as we watched the sunset was a perfect way to end the day.
