Business's in Norway tend to open mid morning so to fill in time until we could get some breakfast, we decided to have a look at the Troll Wall which, at 1000 metres, is Europe's tallest vertical overhanging rock face. Impressive, but difficult to get a true perspective from the ground. It was a relatively short drive to our next stop of Alesund, and we arrived around midday. Alesund is a pretty place, basically built on a peninsula and therefore surrounded by water. The main objective of staying here was to do a full day cruise from Alesund, through the Geiranger Fjord to Geiranger and return. The ferry left at 9am with very few passengers so it was easy to secure outdoor seating on the upper deck. Thr scenery was fantastic and the commentary along the way filled in the gaps. 3 hours later we arrived at Geiranger, and although we had been there two days before, it was a different place thanks to the absence of 2 cruise ships. Lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Fjord was followed by a pleasant walk along and up the Waterfall Trail. By the time we artived home we were tired but thrilled with the day we had enjoyed.
