Good afternoon
We write to you now from a very hot Vancouver, where both Megan and I have some great tan lines. It’s absolutely gorgeous outside right now, while we are sitting in our offices by the sea. It’s a hard life!
Anyhow to bring you up to date with what we have been up to since we last wrote, well the weather last week was pretty horrible! I competed in Bike to work week with my company, eventually finishing 3rd (no not out of 3!!!!); I clocked up 98km for the 5 day week. One day we experienced a freak storm while I was riding – I have never been so wet in all my life! It was like swimming while riding.
Anyhow Megan has been kept on at Pixar, and is now Facilities Supervisor until further notice (which is awesome), she also gets to watch Toy Story 3D for free this week at work. I myself have been taken into Document Control so a little more responsibility and more hours (not good now the World Cup has started – but hey we need the money). Last week we had a "family" (Danny, Megan, Millie, Ewan, Kara (a work colleague of Megan’s) and I) outing to a nearby Italian festival with stalls and music, had a gorgeous meal at a restaurant called Memphis Blues. Serious Meat Sweats afterwards...
We were invited to a work BBQ, where Megan go to know a colleague of mine (Marcel) girlfriend (Kristen) and through this we got invited to his parents cabin in the interior of BC. – Sweet! So this weekend we were lucky enough to head up to the cabin which is at Watch Lake, Cariboo – 6 hours north of Vancouver. The weekend was sensational, the car ride was very interesting with a sleep deprived Kristen providing much of the entertainment – esp. about her work colleague Jenny Fu and Rehoes…
Anyhow Marcel’s parents are both of Polish decent and own 200 aches of woodland and meadow in the middle of nowhere. We stayed all day Saturday by the fire, cooking, shark kite flying, drinking and generally chilling out. We canoed around the lake where we saw a hawks nest and went for a swim (Cold!), looking out for leaches. Whilst we were walking through the forest, we were lucky enough to see a tree fall (proving the popular myth – trees do make noise when they fall), and upon investigation saw that it had been chewed through by a beaver… Wildlife wise the weekend couldn’t be beaten - we explored a beavers house on the lake; saw a lone wolf, coyote, a family of marmots and a Black Bear walked across the road in front of us! It was nothing short of sensational. The gorgeous views from the cabin of the lake and the forest it was un-missable (even if it meant missing England’s first game).
The drive home was also stunning, where we stopped at a local known spot called "the Chasm" (a mini Grand Canyon) and the actual route through the valley was so pretty – few mountains were still topped with snow.
All together this was a weekend Megan and I will not forget (photos will follow).
Anyhow it’s back to work this week – sunshine and World Cup – could we ask for anything more?
