So it was off to Fernie – we were told so many good things about this place – it being one of the top ski resorts in Canada. So we got a bus at 7am down the Rockies route via my second home Windermere… seriously we went passed Lake Windermere, British Columbia! Cool eh… Thought Yana would like that one.
The drive to Fernie was gorgeous, into huge valleys but still surrounded by huge mountains. The town is gorgeous, really quaint and very cool – All 3 of us loved it. The Hostel was also pretty cosy, right next to the drop off point on the Greyhound and really cheap too. We spent a day looking around the town and one day on the hill. To be honest I wished we had just skipped the day on the slope – it was awful. The reason for it being so bad wasn’t because of the slope itself but the lack of snow. It was like skiing on sheet ice at the summit and sludge at the bottom. It was really disappointing – mainly because I had such high expectations of this place. So pissed off, especially because it is not cheap to ski, and I just wanted a couple of good runs but alas they were rubbish. All I can say is thank god for the town – The ribs at the hostel were seriously like dinosaur bones – yummy!
So it’s up at 3.30am for a 17 hour bus journey to Vancouver – mainly because we need the money so need jobs – speak soon.
