We got into Darwin on Tuesday 24 July. For the time being we have set up camp at the BIG4 Free Spirit Resort for a couple of weeks. There is much to see and do at this time of year in Darwin; we have arrived at a good time.
We had a wander around Darwin CBD and fish and chips for lunch at Stokes Wharf. We went to the Mindil Markets last Thursday night. These were very popular. Everyone sits on the beach and watches the sunset. The beach was full of people in all directions. We tried a couple of different dishes for dinner. Food is one of the big draw cards for the market.
Saturday night we went to Marara and watched the Western Bulldogs beat Port Adelaide. I enjoyed getting a fix of live footy and also enjoyed drinking Melbourne Bitter cans. It's the simple pleasures in life!
Sunday night we went to the soccer. The Olyroos were playing Chile in their second friendly. Chile had won the first 4-3, so we were hoping for a good game. It ended up a one all draw. We didn't know a lot of the names of the players but there were a few good ones. Fingers crossed for a good performance in Beijing.
Whilst in Darwin we are also doing some mundane chores like getting the car serviced, cleaning the car and camper inside and out after the build up of all the dust, colouring our hair (those of us who have hair) etc.
Tuesday was Territory Day. You could buy fireworks and set them off that night only. We were still hearing them last night.
The V8 super cars start today and the Darwin Cup (horse racing) carnival starts tomorrow. We are still deciding whether we will go to the races.
We went to the movies on Tuesday to see Indiana Jones. It was quite enjoyable.
More from Darwin later.
