From Mataranka we headed to Katherine. We stocked up on supplies in Katherine (not alcohol though as bottle shops don't open until 2pm) and then headed out to Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park.
We hired a canoe for the day on Friday and canoed through 3 gorges and walking into the fourth gorge. We pulled up on one of the banks to eat our packed lunch before canoing back. There was fresh water crocs about but we didn't encounter any. There were a few signs up on some sandy beaches through the gorge asking people not to go into this area as the crocodiles are nesting and might get nasty if disturbed.
Katherine Gorge was huge and beautiful. I said to David that I thought Lawn Hill was much nicer. I am not sure if that is because of the smaller size and fewer people, making Lawn Hill more intimate. That said it was a beautiful spot.
Saturday we went for a walk along the top of the gorge. The views were lovely.
