Crew Frivolous
Friday 7th August
What a night!!
We camped in the most picturesque spot, had a campfire and the usual cold bevvies. About an hour after we had gone to bed the first road train rumbled down the road and rattled its way over the small one lane bridge. These large noisy b*****s continued crossing the bridge throughout the night. Man, they were loud!!
We drove back into Litchfield NP and wandered along the so called track to see the Cascades. Col had a quick dip in the lower cascades and then we continued to see the ones further up. It was very pretty and we all got quite warm so decided to return to Wangi Falls for a refreshing dip before leaving the park and making our way to Berry Springs.
We stopped at Berry Springs Recreation Reserve and all had a swim in the lovely pools. This is an awesome place. They were not quite as cool as I would have liked but they were still nice.
We booked into the Lakes Resort and Caravan Park at Berry Springs for the night.
Saturday 8th August
We drove the 50 odd km into Darwin this morning and our first stop was the visitor's info centre. It was so busy that we just grabbed a couple of brochures and left.
We walked around the waterfront which is such an oasis. Grass, shade and plenty of room. Then we wandered over to Stokes Hill Wharf where we ended up having lunch overlooking the water.
Marina had suggested we go to Doctor’s Gully to see the fish feeding so we navigated our way there to find out that it was tidal and of course we had missed it and it was also to be closed for the next 2 days (Oh well, next time)
We continued our sightseeing tour of Darwin and drove out to East Point Reserve and then back to Cullen bay for a look at their jetty and a nice cold beer at Lola’s Pergola,
We stopped at Berry Springs for a dip before heading back to the park for the night.
After an early dinner we went over to the bar in the hope of watching an AFL match on the telly but the Bledisloe Cup was on which took precedence over our choice. We decided to stay and watch anyway and have a couple of drinks. Cheap drinks all round. They were happy that you came to socialise and didn’t rip you off. $3 for a can of beer and $4 for a glass of wine. Very impressed with their prices.
Sunday 9th August
We stayed in the park this morning. Joe washed the van while the rest of us caught up on the usual domestic chores.
We drove back to Cullen Bay and had the most delicious lunch at Lola’s Pergola over -looking the waterfront.
After lunch we went to visit Julie and Darren Stewart and their 2 boys James and Michael. They are friends that used to live in Bermagui. We had a lovely catch up with them and they also told us many beautiful places to visit.
It was soon time to leave and we headed to Mindil Beach to visit the markets and to watch the sunset. There were so many food stalls and such a huge variety but as we had been out to lunch none of us sampled any of their wares. We wandered along the other stalls and made a couple of purchases but overall both Wen and I were disappointed with what was on offer.
We headed over to the beach to have a couple of drinks and to watch the sun go down. By the time the sun was about to disappear it was almost standing room only. It was so very crowded.
