Monday-New Years Eve. We woke up to wonderful harbour views. We had been a little concerned that we might be moved on from our overnight parking spot - as there was some confusion about whether we were permitted to camp there over night, but we were undisturbed. So we toddled off to the I-site to see about booking a site for New Year's Eve, but as we expected everywhere was fully booked. We then went for a drive around the penisular, the weather was great and this places is so hilly there are great views of the multitude of inlets. We went for a paddle and Eric fished whilst I read - very relaxing. We then headed back to Akaroa to our original parking spot on the waterfront and decided to try another night here. In the evening, we went out to eat and a few drinks ending up at a restaurant bar called The Stables- we sat outside in an english style country garden, listening to live music and having something to eat - you could not beat it. Over the road was another bar which was full of young people getting drunk rather noisily - shocking! we ventured there brief,y to play their slot machines but quickly retreated. It was a bit odd being out for new years just the two of us, and I think we fully expected to be in bed early, but we made it to midnight -sat outside at the Stables and had a lovely evening.
