Rome, Italy. 15th September 2011.
Our last day in Italy and still there is so much to do and see. So after breakfast Peter and I catch the Bus to Saint Peter's Basilica.
On arrival I attach my legs as I recall 22 years ago I was turned away for having shorts on even though they were covering my knees. What do I find, they have now relaxed the rules, just my luck!
On entering the Basilica I walked over to Michael Angelo's Pieta, well how disappointed was I, expecting it to be enormous and yet it was small. The Basilica is grand but not as elaborate as the Duomo in Siena. Peter and I climbed up to the top of the Capella and 530 steps to the top and we made it. Great views all round but at I was getting tiered of the crowd. I never recall these crowds when I toured in 1989. It seems the Euro has opened up it's door to the travelers.
Leaving Saint Peter's, Peter and I had lunch in a bar, standing only as it was an extra €2 to sit down.
After lunch we saw the Castello Di Angelo, the Emanuele II bridge then returned to the Railway Terminus before seeing The Basilica degli Angelina and lastly The Basilica of Prassede where there are some brilliant mosaics from the 9th century. This church was recommend to me by my client Mary.
Walking back to our hotel we walked into part of the old Roman Baths which houses a museum, we just got to see the gardens and some old ruins.
In our hotel foyer we met our friends Dawn, Netty and Catrina from our walking group in Tuscany and they joined us for dinner.
After dinner we went around the corner for a dolce and coffee before retiring for the night.
Buona Sera.
